- Add items to your Gimme list, making sure to be specific about what you want and how you will spend the money.

Many people use their facebook, myspace and other social networking sites to notify their circle about their GGIW profile. Others just use IM and email.

About GGIW
GGIW was started as an easy way for anyone with a PayPal account to easily collect donations for anything. We'd like to think that what we're really doing here is to help people get a little help from their friends and family.
We are not trying to be the next Web 2.0 social networking phenomenon, MySpace, Facebook, or flavor of the week. As such, we'd like to keep the site simple, quick, and easy to use. We will add in some new features in the future, but it's all centered around helping you and your friends and family to connect up and raise a little money to help out.
If you happen to come here looking for a management page with contacts, management bios and the like, please visit our contact page or send email to info@ggiw.com, and we'll be happy to answer your questions.

GGIW uses quite a few icons and graphics that are freely available on the Internet.
The smilies like
are part of a great package called FeltTip4 from a very good artist named Chromakode. The package can be found be found at http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/20097942/
Every image based on these smilies, including the site logo, are freely usable under the Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike license 2.5. The text of which can be found here. These images are free to use and modify under those terms, so please have a look if you might want to use them.
In addition to the smilies, GGIW also makes use of a great icon set called "Silk" created by Mark James, which may be found http://www.famfamfam.com/lab/icons/silk/ under the same Creative Commons Attribution-Sharealike 2.5 license as FeltTip4.
Please note, however, that the logo contains actual text, namely the site name, which may be under other copyright and trademark limitations. Please contact us if you have any questions. We are very happy to have the site graphics derived from Creative Commons Attribution licensed sources used in the spirit of the license.
We are very grateful to the artists that have generously donated their time and effort to putting together these great images. Please show your support by thanking them directly and promoting their work if you can.
In addition to the Creative Commons material on this site, we have made heavy use of GNU/Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP and many other open source packages. The people contributing to these projects are the unsung heros of the Internet. From tiny little blogs to Google and Youtube, free open source software makes it all possible. Thanks!

What's a Gimme?
A Gimme is an item for which you'd like to raise money. Other users can browse to your profile and donate any amount of money to your gimmes.
 Back Up to Top
How do you pronounce 'Gimme', GGIW, etc?
Gimme is just short for "give me", so it is pronounced accordingly - gimmy (Like Timmy). GGIW is an acronym for Gimme Gimme I Want!, so you should just say the letter G-G-I-W.

How can I be sure my donation is used for the stated purpose?
What happens if a user doesn't raise their target amount?
Do I have to use money for the stated purpose?
When a user puts up a Gimme, that user is making a promise to his or her friends, family and the rest of the community. That promise is a simple one: to use the money donated to fund what is being asked for. There's no contract, oversight, or anything else forcing a user to spend the money properly.
As a user, you're on the honor system. We have found that, if you want to be a successful user here, it is best to be an honest member of the GGIW community.
If you decide to close a Gimme, or you don't raise the full amount, you are responsible for using the money that you've collected in an appropriate way. Some users will use the
donation details information to refund payments to users by going directly to PayPal. Due to the difficulty in making this an automatic function, you will be responsbile for giving refunds, if appropriate, directly from your paypal login. Most of the time, however, money given is treated as a gift by both parties. We encourage donations given in this spirit.

Why is PayPal prompting me for a destination address while donating?
This problem is caused when the you have not entered a working PayPal account. You can correct this by clicking on 'Your PayPal Info' from your profile.

How many Gimmes can I have?
You can have as many Gimmes as you'd like. However, we find that the fewer gimmes you have, the more likely you are to have people donate to you. The best number varies from user to user, but we recommend between 1-5 gimmes. Basically, the fewer the better.

How do I cancel/delete a Gimme?
You can close a Gimme by clicking the 'edit' button for the Gimme and checking the Closed box at the bottom. You cannot currently completely delete a Gimme from your account, but setting it to Closed will cause it to become invisible to other users.

I'm having problems uploading photos.
Images come in all shapes, sizes and formats. Unfortunately, not all images work properly as profile photos.
We do try to support as many different formats as possible, however.
If you are having problems uploading photos, please check the following:
- Dimensions - Pictures that are too large will automatically be resized.
If you are trying to upload a large picture, you may want to resize
it on your computer using photo editing software. You might prefer this
since your photo may not be resized exactly how you'd like it
- File Size - There is a limit to the file size for picture uploads.
Please check to see if your file is very large (many megabytes). You can
try shrinking the picture in photo editing software. That usually helps
reduce file size a lot.
- Uncommon formats - We prefer that you use GIF, JPEG or PNG for photo uplaods.
We try to support other formats, but size and technical limitations make
this difficult. Try to convert your picture to one of these formats before
you upload.
